Company in White Center offers great Tuesday specials
Company in White Center offers a limited menu of affordable food.

It's an unusual mix in downtown White Center these days. There's the shop selling quinceañera gowns and the gourmet-ice-cream joint that got a mention in The New York Times; there's the adult video store and now there's Company, a neighborhood hangout with a clean, hip vibe.
"I live in this neighborhood and my sense was there were a lot of people living here who aren't really going out that much in this area," said Jesse Lovell, who opened the place in January with several partners. "I just wanted to provide a different option for night life in White Center."
Its motto posted on Facebook: Awesome just went south.
The menu: Short enough to be written on a blackboard but with enough twists to keep it interesting. Yes, there are fries, but they're made of sweet potatoes ($3) and even chickpeas ($5) — plus, if you're feeling lowbrow, there are tater tots ($5).
Kebabs are the only real entree on the menu aside from the specials, but you can easily put together a satisfying dinner with the smaller plates and round things out with one of three nice salad choices (mixed greens, beets or iceberg wedge, each $7). For specials, they've offered lasagna, pork chops, enchiladas and other items, for $12 or less. Soon they'll be adding sliders and some more entrees.
What to write home about: "$2 Tuesday," what a concept! The most appealing choice to us: $2 chicken or beef kebabs. A single skewer came with about 3 ounces of Mediterranean-flavored meat on a bed of seasoned rice, served with tzatziki sauce. For a few bucks extra, we tried a lamb skewer, and liked that one best. Other nights, get a full order of kebabs with rice and a side of greens, lentils or rice for $12.
We tried the chickpea fries for the novelty factor and walked away pleasantly surprised. They were crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside, with a side of tzatziki to boot. We hope to go back to check out their homey-sounding Sunday dinner specials.
The setting: A high-ceilinged space with exposed two-by-four decking and a floor of unfinished concrete gives Company a cool and sparse feel — in a good way.
Summing up: We tried much of the menu and the bill came to $33.55 including tax: spicy meatballs, chickpea fries, two kebabs, salt cod fritters and a salad.
