A new poll in the seven-candidate race for the 1st Congressional District shows Republican John Koster with a commanding lead overall, and progressive activist Darcy Burner pulling away from four Democratic challengers.

The Survey USA poll, commissioned by KING-5, finds Koster cruising to the August primary with 46 percent of the vote, and beating each of the five Democrats. Burner fares best in a head-to-head race with Koster, but loses by nine points.

The poll is particularly bad news for Democrat Suzan DelBene, a former Microsoft executive and state Revenue director. She won a series of prominent endorsements, including Gov. Chris Gregoire, but gets just 4 percent of the vote if the primary were held today.

An early April poll also found Koster, a Snohomish County councilman, well ahead and with Burner being the only Democrat with double-digit support, at 11 percent. The poll was commissioned by Koster's campaign, but several of the Democrats' campaigns affirmed the numbers matched their own internal polling. In Koster's poll, DelBene had 3 percent, indicating she hasn't moved the needle in nearly six months of campaigning - and giving her campaign $300,000 of her own money.
