Gay marriage vote set for Wednesday in state Senate
Legislation legalizing same-sex marriage is slated for a floor vote on Wednesday in the Senate, according to state Sen. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, the prime sponsor of the bill.
Senate Bill 6239 cleared the Senate Government Operations, Tribal Relations and Elections Committee on Thursday with a 4-3 party-line vote.
The legislation has been endorsed by 25 senators, which is the number of votes needed to pass the bill in the Senate. Supporters say they have enough votes to approve the measure in the House as well, and Gov. Chris Gregoire has said she supports it.
