Murray says stop partisan bickering; calls Republicans "childish"
Posted by Jim Brunner
U.S. Sen. Patty Murray sent an email to campaign supporters this week, appealing for help to "change the tone" in Washington, D.C.
But her partisan missive has only taunts for Republicans she calls "childish" and "irresponsible."
Murray's appeal cites her role as co-chair of the bipartisan Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, calling it "one of a number of opportunities to put the bickering aside" and work to strengthen America.
The email, which includes a button to donate to Murray's re-election campaign, lays all the blame for the country's rancid political discourse on the other side, saying Americans are tired of the GOP's "childish antics."
"From threatening to shutdown government over critically needed disaster relief and ridiculously calling the President's common-sense jobs proposal 'class-warfare' to sheltering millionaires and Big Oil at the expense of middle class families, senior citizens, and college students -- the Republicans refuse to get serious," Murray writes.
Murray calls on supporters to sign an online petition telling Senate Majority Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner to "help us change the tone" in D.C. "so we can solve the real economic problems facing America today!"
It's worth asking whether her political message - aimed solely at riling up the Democratic base - does anything to further that cause.
