After leaving the Seattle Channel this spring, longtime public-affairs host and local government whiz C.R. Douglas took a job at a commercial station working for Q13, the local Fox affiliate.

Among his responsibilities: calling in to the country station 100.7 The Wolf to offer political commentary to the raucous morning DJs.

Last week, he weighed in about results from the primary election. Douglas is fair-minded and knows local issues well. Live on the air, he tried to maintain some level of professionalism while the DJs doled out set-ups mocking elected officials.

The most cringeworthy portion is at 5:00, when Douglas tries to give an even-handed account of Seattle City Councilmember Jean Godden's re-election chances while the DJs want to make jokes about the 79-year-old incumbent's "varicose veins."

"Don't go dyin' on us!" they scream. Douglas didn't take the bait, reporting accurately that Godden does aerobics at least four days a week.

The DJs follow up with a phone call from someone pretending to be the council member, talking in a mock old-person voice about her aerobics routine. And then it was time to sign off.

"That was super-great," Douglas says, awkwardly. "I had a great time."
