Report: Gregoire on the short list for Obama position
Posted by Andrew Garber
UPDATE at 1:30 p.m: This story has been updated on our website. Go here to read the latest.
The National Journal is reporting that Gov. Chris Gregoire is on the short list to replace Solicitor General Elena Kagan, who has been nominated for the U.S. Supreme Court.
A staffer for a member of Washington's congressional delegation confirmed with me Wednesday morning that Gregoire is on the short list.
No word yet from the governor's office, which earlier this week discounted rumors she was being talked about for the job.
UPDATE at 10:32 a.m. from Kyung M. Song in Washington bureau:
An Obama administration official confirmed that Gregoire is on the list. Not clear who and how many other names are on it. Gregoire, who was Washington's attorney general before becoming governor, was long thought to be interested in a job with the Obama administration, perhaps in the Justice Department.
