Former McGinn adviser Chris Bushnell fined $500 for ethics violation

Posted by Emily Heffter

Seattle's ethics watchdogs issued a $500 fine Wednesday afternoon to Chris Bushnell, a former staffer in Mayor Mike McGinn's office.

Bushnell, a close adviser to McGinn throughout his campaign and transition, worked for the mayor's office officially for only about two weeks. He resigned after admitting that he had lied in the past about having a Ph.D.

The Ethics and Elections Commission determined Bushnell should have told the mayor and department managers in writing that his wife worked for a company that was part of a bid on the city's sea-wall replacement project. Bushnell worked on choosing members for the sea-wall project selection team.
