In the race for King County executive, Dow Constantine has raised considerably more money than Susan Hutchison.

Constantine has collected $804,028 in campaign contributions through Monday, Oct. 12, while Hutchison reported raising $506,393.

Hutchison has spent less and has a larger cash balance, according to the latest reports, with $190,796 to Constantine's $141,158.

But Constantine has already spent $55,500 buying TV advertising time, while Hutchison has not reported buying any TV time yet.

Hutchison has produced a TV ad, which cost $19,244. Constantine spent $36,000 on consultant and production services for a TV ad.

Hutchison appears to have fallen far short of a fundraising goal. The day after the Aug.18 primary election, Hutchison sent out an e-mail to supporters saying "we must raise $500,000 between now and Sept. 30."

The message seemed clear: The campaign wanted to raise $500,000 in roughly six weeks between Aug. 19 and Sept. 30. But Hutchison's campaign manager Jordan McCarren said the e-mail meant to indicate that the campaign wanted to reach a total of $500,000 raised by Oct. 1. He said they effectively reached that goal, as demonstrated in the latest campaign reports filed Tuesday.
