Nickels tops $500k in fundraising, Mallahan at $320k

Posted by Jim Brunner

The latest campaign fundraising reports for the Seattle mayor's race were due today, and, not surprisingly, incumbent Mayor Greg Nickels topped the pack with $510,000 raised for his reelection bid. He spent a huge chunk of that, but still reports $39,000 cash on hand.

T-Mobile executive Joe Mallahan was next with nearly $320,000 -- including his own pledge of $200,000. Mallahan has blown through that entire stash, and then some, to try and get through the Aug. 18 primary. His report shows his campaign $35,000 in debt after spending all his money on ads, polling and political consultants.

Seattle City Councilmember Jan Drago reported raising $102,000, and while she spent most of it, she still reported $38,000 cash on hand.

Former Sonic James Donaldson's fundraising problems continued. He reports raising about $35,000, but after expenses that leaves him more than $9,000 in the hole.

Environmental leader and Viaduct tunnel opponent Mike McGinn has raised nearly $59,000, including a personal loan of $9,400 to his campaign. He's spent all that, leaving a slight deficit of $1,000.

Will have an update on City Council fundraising in the morning.
