The thrill of giving

ALAN BERNER / THE SEATTLE TIMES

Four hundred ninety feet above Second Avenue, Stan Christianson, dressed as Yosemite Sam, goes over the edge to rappel to the street during the Washington Special Olympics fundraiser Saturday. About 100 people who raised at least $1,000 get the opportunity to drop from the 43-story building at 1000 Second Ave. Special Olympics hopes to raise $150,000; 20 slots remain for Sunday. Participants will have until Sept. 15 to raise the money. Christianson, from Skagit Valley, secured parts of his costume to prevent losing his hat, beard and other accouterments. Rachel Bassett, background, goes over at the same time.
