Harold Saddler, 17, of Whidbey Island cut a huge cake at the Sand Point Naval Air Station on July 1, 1961. Lt. Cmdr. Joseph Warrior, station recruiting officer, stood to the left of Saddler, who filled the last vacancy in the station's 20 air squadrons when he was sworn in. Forty-eight pounds of powdered sugar went into the cake's icing.
