Inverted over Elliott Bay

GREG GILBERT / THE SEATTLE TIMES

Upside down over Elliott Bay, Air National Guard aerobatic pilot Lt. Col. John Klatt, center, in his Xtra 300L airplane and aerobatic pilot Jeff Boerboon in his 1929 WACO replica "Jack Links Screamin Sasquatch" practice ahead of their performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday over Lake Washington in between heats of the hydro races. Boerboon's plane is powered by a Pratt and Whitney 450HP engine and additionally it has a jet engine mounted under the plane for an added 2950 pounds of thrust. The added jet allows Boerboon to briefly hover vertically in the air.
