ERIKA SCHULTZ / THE SEATTLE TIMES

From left, Louis Swan, Delois Day, Troy Walker and Dr. Bob Flennaugh bow their heads Wednesday during the First African Methodist Episcopal Church's prayer band service for the sick, the shut-in and the bereaved. "We are bereaved in the passing of Maya Angelou," said LaVerne Walker, a member of the prayer band, not pictured. The group meets every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. on Capitol Hill. On Wednesday, the church members prayed for a variety of people in need, including family and friends of Angelou's.
