Nimitz is home for the holidays

The USS Nimitz, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, returned to its Everett homeport Monday after nearly nine months and more than 80,000 nautical miles at sea. The carrier spent six months on a routine deployment in the Western Pacific before being called to the Mediterranean Sea via the Suez Canal, where it participated in operations with NATO allies.

The extended deployment was in response to tensions in Syria and in support of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Naval officials said.
