Looking into the matter, University of Washington professor Iain Robertson, center, with silver hair, has his landscape-architecture students check the depth of an English Laurel hedge that's 10-to-12-feet deep. The hedge across from the Center for Urban Horticulture is quite vigorous, according to the professor.
