Badminton Royale V: Artistic Throwdown

What started as an innocent game of badminton in the parking lot of a pre-season tailgate party at On the Boards in Queen Anne five years ago has blossomed into a highly organized, competitive, day-long set of matches with smack-talking and fancy racquet moves to match the outfits. Seattle Repertory Theatre emerged as the champions of the 31 local institutions that battled for bragging rights and the prized trophy - a bottle of Jack Daniels. Among others, Velocity Dance Center won the "Stick to the Arts" award and Reel Girls brought home the prize for most artistic playing. The event has grown to be so popular that there was a waiting list for teams this year. "I don't know why," said Erin Jorgensen, in communications at On the Boards. "Maybe they need a break from art, or something." Full results posted here.
