Artisans from Zigong, China, are constructing local icons and lanterns from metal and fabric for an exhibit at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup from Sept. 6-22 called Luminasia. Though worker You Xiaobo is atop what will become a 60-foot-tall replica of the Space Needle, it's an ancient craft transformed and updated. The workers have been here since early August assembling the structures including a Washington state ferry, an orca, daffodils, totem poles and other structures that will be illuminated. A separate admission will be required.
