Seattle police horse moving to Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center

ELLEN BANNER / THE SEATTLE TIMES

Seattle police officer J.D. Martin, center, with the Seattle police Mounted Patrol Unit and a SPD police officer, raised, trained and rode Blaze the horse, left, for the Seattle Police Department. He was with other members of the mounted patrol unit when they gave the horse to the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center, of Redmond. Blaze seems to be laughing as Martin shows fellow Officer Mark Wubbena, right, how to take a picture of him and Blaze before officially handing over the reins to the center. Blaze, who is 13 and loves people, was hurting after years on concrete and asphalt. He will now begin a new career at the center, where kids will ride him on softer surfaces -- which will be a win-win for both the horse, the Police Department and the kids.
