MARK HARRISON / THE SEATTLE TIMES
Drivers line up their 4x4s, waiting to test their rigs and skill on a rock pile. After being closed to all but foot traffic since 2009, the Washington Department of Natural Resources reopened the Reiter Foothills Forest, in Snohomish County's Sultan-Gold Bar area, to motorized vehicles. It also includes a new four-wheel-drive challenge course, which is being tested by local off-road enthusiasts. More test days, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., are set for Sunday, February 17 as well as March 9 and March 24.
