After arriving from Zoo Atlanta, a seven-year-old male Asian small-clawed otter -- the world's smallest otter species -- is examined during a routine quarantine protocol at Woodland Park Zoo Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, in Seattle. Here, the groggy otter comes out of the anesthesia. Eventually the otter, whose name hasn't been determined by zoo officials, will be joined by a female otter arriving from the Bronx Zoo, and the pair will be bred and part of the zoo's new Asian tropical forest exhibit now under construction. Following the exam, which included x-rays and a weigh-in, the otter will remain in a temporary, off-view exhibit until phase one of the exhibit opens to the public in May.
