ERIKA SCHULTZ / THE SEATTLE TIMES

Daniel Ashbaugh walks through his living room at the Meadowbrook Apartments in Shoreline after a fire damaged his residence early Sunday. The fire damaged 12 apartments and displaced at least three families, according to the Red Cross. On Sunday, some of the families were staying in a temporary shelter set up by the Red Cross, said Teresa Kenney, an organization spokeswoman. Ashbaugh, who does not have renters insurance, said he was sleeping when the fire began. He lived in the apartment with his wife and their two sons.

Authorities have not yet identified the cause of the fire that began sometime after midnight at the apartments in the 1400 block of Northwest Richmond Beach Road.
