The life of "April D. Bovine" is celebrated at Eastsound, Orcas Island. The cow was "mayor" of Eastsound from 2011 to 2012, after defeating two dogs, a cat and a bunny, according to Susan Anderson, executive director of Orcas Island Children's House, an early childhood learning center that uses the "election" every year as a fundraiser. A collection was started so a brick could be placed in Orcas Island Historical Museum's Commemorative Walkway. Anderson called the cow "an icon to the community."
