Gurudwara Singh Sabha candlelight vigil

ERIKA SCHULTZ / THE SEATTLE TIMES

More than a thousand people, including Harbhajan Kaur, center, attend a candlelight vigil Saturday evening at Gurudwara Singh Sabha of Washington in Renton, Wash. Three South King County Sikh gurudwaras came together to honor the Oak Creek, Wis., victims, police and Seattle-area community members who reached out in solidarity. Elected officials attended the event, as well as individuals from the Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths. Hardeep Singh Rekhi, a board member of OneAmerica, said he was touched by the local response to the shootings, and is hopeful that those who attended the event will speak out against hate in their everyday lives, "Whether it's racial slurs, bullying or something larger," he said.
