The Marysville Strawberry Festival was celebrated for the 81st year this week. For the strawberry shortcake eating contest in the Strawberry Festival Junior Royalty challenge event, Asheley Krutsinger, at left, kept an eye on the competition as she tried to eat the shortcake without using her hands. Lars Kundu, second from the right, won this round with his face down approach. Brianna Hansen is second from the left and Vanessa Page is at right. The season of eating contests continued in Ballard as Ian Donovan, 14, won the pie-eating contest for the second year in a row at the Tournament of Champions, an annual three-day, single-elimination tournament of eight area little league teams at Gilman Field, Saturday, June 16, 2012. The tournament continues Monday and Tuesday with games at Gilman Field starting at 6pm.
