Daffodil give away in downtown Seattle

ELLEN M. BANNER / THE SEATTLE TIMES

Five-year-old Robert Hipple-Read is all ready to give away his daffodils as Jennifer Pelton, right, with the Pike Place Market Developers Association, gives away one of hers at Westlake Park in Seattle Tuesday morning, celebrating the first day of spring. From 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. at 4th & Pine, students from Pike Market Child Care and Preschool handed out flowers until they needed to return to school in time for lunch and a nap. Others stayed until 1:00 p.m., or when all the flowers were given away. To welcome spring's arrival, community members handed out 12,000 daffodils to downtown shoppers, workers and residents during lunch time on Tuesday, the official first day of spring. The daffodils are grown by Market farmers.
