Up periscope!

STEVE RINGMAN / THE SEATTLE TIMES

A periscope given to the Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) in 1964 by the U.S Navy on an "indefinite loan" was installed in the Maritime Exhibit at MOHAI's new location, the Armory Building at Lake Union Park. This view through the periscope gives you a good look at the north end of Lake Union and Wallingford in the distance.

Luke Klue, a civilian working for the U.S. Navy out of Bangor Naval Submarine Base works on the periscope before it is attached to it's base in the new MOHAI museum. The periscope has been at Bangor since last September for restoration. The World War II era periscope is 39-feet long and rotates 360 degrees for some great views of Lake Union and downtown Seattle.
