Crews remove snow from North Cascades Highway
Posted by Erika Schultz
MARK HARRISON / THE SEATTLE TIMES
Facing the latest opening since the early 70's, WSDOT crews are currently working from both directions to remove the snow from Highway 20. On the North Cascades Highway, at Liberty Bell, west of Mazama, one 500 yard stretch of road was covered by 3 snow slides ranging from 60 to 70 feet deep.
WSDOT crews are hoping to have North Cascades Highway open by Memorial Day week. However, a mudslide, of about 20 feet deep and 100 feet long, slid across the corridor over the weekend.
