The Reader's Lens, 2014

Photographer: Radka Chapin, Redmond

Photo taken: Oct. 4, Spray Park, Mount Rainier National Park

Photographer's description: “This was taken after our climb of Observation Rock with our Mountaineers group. We were hiking out through Spray Park when we were treated to a beautiful sunset. I used my Nikon D600.”

Expert says: “The light in this photo is absolutely gorgeous and how it hits the plants creates a softness to the photo. It doesn’t get any better than that golden-hour light. I really like that the trail starts in the corner of the frame and leads us to the colorful sunset and the sunburst created by it. The deep red foliage on the bottom right balances the frame and adds another punch of color and a place for your eye to wander. This is a truly beautiful photo.”
