The Reader's Lens, 2014

Photographer: Tim Nicol, Republic, Ferry County

Photo taken:July 7, in photographer’s garden

Photographer's description: “This photo of a tree frog on a flower was taken in my backyard garden using a Nikon D7100, with a Tamron 18-270 lens and a Hoya 2X filter.”

Expert says: “The bee-on-a-flower shot is sometimes overdone but I don’t think I’ve seen a frog-on-a-flower shot, at least not one quite like this. I love the fiery color and the texture of the flower’s center that contrasts really well with the smooth, soft green of the background as well as the frog’s skin. It’s nice how the focus falls off toward the back of the frog’s body and the flower. All those points plus beautiful light paired with a quiet moment makes for a great frame.”
