Andrew Fowler (#425) with the Metro Parks Panthers leads the pack in the 100 meter walk at the Special Olympcis held at Joint Base Lewis-McCord Saturday. 2,700 Special Olympic athletes competed in the 2012 Summer Games at Joint Base Lewis-McCord June 1-3. Athletes competed in soccer, track and field, swimming (at the King Count Aquatics Center), cycling and power-lifting. "Special Olympics Washington provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community," according to their literature.
