Hiked out to help with stability, sailors compete in the 2012 NOOD Regatta in Shilshole Bay. More than 120 boats and 500 sailors are competing in numerous classes of wind-powered vessels. In sailing, hiking is the moving of the crew's body weight as far to windward (upwind) as possible, in order to decrease the extent the boat heels (leans away from the wind).
