Photos of the Day: June 2, 2014

A mannequin representing US 82nd Airborne paratrooper, John Steele, hangs from the church of Sainte-Mere-Eglise, in Normandy, France, June 2, 2014. Steele's paradrop on the night of June 5, 1944 landed him atop the church of Sainte-Mere-Eglise, as made famous by the film 'The Longest Day' - and a mannequin remains in his place to this day. June 6, 2014 will mark the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings on D-Day, with world leaders gathering for an international ceremony in Ouistreham.
