While the country has been in turmoil and crisis since November 2013, people continue to seek recreation at the fitness grounds near the Dniper river. The widely popular 6.2 square mile outdoor fitness gym was built in Soviet times back in 1970. All gym equipment is made from scrap metal and admission is free. Kachalka is popular among all Ukrainian social groups, the middle and lower class, youths as well as seniors.
