Ukraine protests take deadly turn

At least three policemen have been killed in the Feb. 18, clashes with protesters in Kiev, another 157 were injured, 35 of them seriously, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said. According to city health officials, by 8 pm local time (1800 GMT), 185 protesters were injured, 89 of whom were hospitalized, the Interfax news agency reported. The city said earlier that seven civilians had been killed in Tuesday's violence. Ukraine has been mired in political crisis since November after the government backed away from a trade agreement with the European Union and signed a 15-billion-dollar loan deal with Russia instead.
