The College of Canons are led through the cloisters to the Chapter House ahead of the formal election of Justin Welby as the new Archbishop of Canterbury, on January 10, 2013 in Canterbury, England. The College of Canons met today inside the 14th century Chapter House at Canterbury Cathedral to elect the new Archbishop after receiving the 'Conge d' Elire' and 'Letter Missive' from the Crown authorizing the election to take place. Welby, currently the Bishop of Durham, will take over from Dr Rowan Williams, the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury, who stepped down from the position on December 31, 2012.
