Boyd Phelps plays his sax in Fremont at the feet of the Lenin statue, Thur. Sept. 26, 2013, in Seattle. "It's a good place to play," says Phelps, who is relearning music after three strokes. According to a sign Phelps has out next to a sax case with dollar bills, he is a former music professor who has been published in DownBeat magazine and a former lead alto saxophonist in the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Phelps adds that he is "finding creative ways to relearn a lifetime of music." Judging by the clear clean jazz heard here, that goal has been achieved.
