France's incumbent president and Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) party candidate for the French 2012 presidential election Nicolas Sarkozy arrives on stage to give a speech during a campaign meeting on May 1, 2012 at the Trocadero square in front of the Eiffel tower in Paris. Sarkozy initially called his rally in the name of "real work" before deciding to focus on the exposure of private sector workers to the economic crisis, in contrast with public sector workers who are "blocking France". At the same time, unions will march to the capital's Place de la Bastille as part of the May Day celebrations.
