Jewelers in India ended their three-week strike April 7 after assurances that the government would consider scrapping a budget proposal to levy excise duty on unbranded jewellery. There is an expectation of a 10-15% increase over and above the normal demand in the next few days as the summer wedding season, which along with festivals whets the country's appetite for gold, begins in the city this week.
