Renee Navarre and John Wayne got an up close view of a couple of gray whales as they floated off of Hat Island near Everett Wednesday afternoon, March 24, 2013. The migrating gray whales are annual visitors to Saratoga Pass where they feed on sand shrimp from the beaches near the Snohomish River delta. Monte Hughes, owner and skipper of the whale tour boat Mystic Sea which runs charters out of Langley said, "it has been a phenomenal gray whale season. We have seen whales every trip this year.
