Gathered in grief | March 29
At the Miller Community Center on Capitol Hill, police and Seattle officials brief friends and roommates of six young people gunned down at a house party after a rave March 25. With the city in shock over the shooting spree on Capitol Hill, several vigils and memorials were scheduled in the days after the killings. I was assigned to document a community meeting at the center near the house where the shootings took place. The police and neighborhood leaders met to answer questions about community safety. At the same time, hundreds had gathered for a memorial service outside the house. Several people from the memorial marched into the packed meeting room and sat on the floor in front of the speakers. It turned out that some of these folks had lived in the house. As they comforted each other, I saw my picture.
