The Reader's Lens, 2013

Photographer: Lynn Colwell, Renton

Photo taken: July 17, Deception Pass State Park

Photographer's description: “Was looking at tide pools with grandkids when we heard wild chirping. Saw four birds sitting on a branch about 20 feet away. Stood for 10 minutes, balancing on a rock, trying to hold the camera steady while the mother flew in and out feeding morsels. Used a Nikon Coolpix P510.”

Expert says: “The repetition in this photo is what stands out to me. I love those mouths, and I think it’s funny that the mama bird looks smaller than her babies. Great job by the photographer for sticking it out and being persistent in getting this photo.”
