The Reader's Lens, 2013

Photographer: Blaine Amidon, Edmonds

Photo taken: Aug. 25, New Dungeness Light Station, Sequim

Photographer's description: "As the sun was setting I saw clouds directly above and a clearing to the west. So, I grabbed my Nikon D600 camera and tripod and set up looking west. As the sun went down I was able to capture beautiful tones of brown, rust and orange in the clouds. "

Expert says: "The colors in this sunset are gorgeous. I like the almost-silhouette of the lighthouse as well. It could be interesting to get low to the ground to create even more of a focus on the sunset. It looks like there was tall grass in the area, too, which could create a foreground and a little extra texture. Beautiful shot!"
