2012 Reader Photos of the Year

HONORABLE MENTION: NORTHWEST SCENICS

Photographer: Yoshiki Nakamura, Seattle

Photo taken: May 6, 2012, from Fairview Avenue East, on Lake Union, Seattle

Photographer's description: "Super moon celebrates the 50th anniversary of Space Needle. I woke up early in the morning to capture the full moon passing through the Space Needle observation deck. I used 300 mm lens with x1.7 extender stacking with x2.0 extender creating 1,020mm equivalent focal length."

Judge's comment: "The long focal length pulls together the distant objects, which balance nicely with their contrasting shapes. The 'Galaxy Gold' top of the Needle contrasts perfectly with the early-morning blue sky, to give the image a pop of color."
