Photographer: Cheryl Kauffman, Seattle
Photo taken: Jan. 7, Seattle, in photographer's backyard
Photographer's description: "My husband, Steve, was working in the backyard, creating a tool that involved metal-on-metal work and created fabulous arcs of sparks. Camera: Canon PowerShot SX200IS, using Night Scene SCN mode."
Expert says: "This week's photo achieved excellent exposure using existing light. The choice of shutter speed allowed the worker's face to be properly exposed, the sparks to be sharp, but the background to fall off, creating a clean image without distractions. Interesting angles and lines lead the viewer's eye through the image. Suggestion: Crop in from left to get rid of excessive negative space."
