Photo taken: Nov. 6, Dockton, Vashon/Maury islands
Photographer's description: "My wife and I were exploring Vashon Island and the scene presented itself. The monotone of the clouds and fog with a still reflection on the water and hints of dull color created the perfect mood. I really liked the large range of grays and contrast of the foreground objects. I used a Panasonic GF1."
Expert says: "Winter looms on the horizon. The monotone hues, deadly quiet scene and lone fallen leaf in the mirror-like water are perfectly captured with nice composition. The exposure is spot on to show the fog and misty shadows. But this sleepy scene makes me want to put on a bright red coat and run to the end of the dock. A little visual surprise would give this image a boost." — Kevin Fujii, Seattle Times picture editor
