One week after Superstorm Sandy

Commuters disembark the Staten Island Ferry one week after Superstorm Sandy crashed into the metropolitan area, wreaking havoc and shutting down mass transit services for days, Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, in New York. The island of Manhattan has begun to return to normal following a week of power outages that shuttered businesses and left many downtown residents in the dark. The words written along the terminal wall are from an excerpt from the poem "Recuerdo" by Edna St. Vincent Millay: "We were very tired, we were very merry/We had gone back and forth all night on the ferry."
