A devotee of the Jui Tui Chinese Shrine has her cheek pierced with the handle of an umbrella at a procession during the Vegetarian Festival in Phuket, southern Thailand Monday, Oct. 3, 2011. The festival, held annually at the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar, celebrates vegetarianism with the believe that the sacred rituals bestow good fortune upon those who religiously observe this rite.
