Retiring flags on Flag Day

On Flag Day, 404 no longer serviceable flags were properly retired in ceremony at VFW Post 2995 in Redmond. Post commander Gregory Ham tosses a large Stars and Stripes on the fire. Folded into the shape of a tri-cornered hat, it 's a reminder of those who served under Gen. George Washington in the Revolutionary War and sailors and marines who served under Capt. John Paul Jones says past post commander Jim Weaver. Each flag is folded 13-times with each fold having a separate meaning. Later when the ashes of the flags cool, they will be buried with full-military honors, a 21-gun salute and taps.
