Having a whirl of a time

Marsha Riel of Lynnwood, center, dances with Vira Laurence of Bothell as square dancers from all over Western Washington gathered at the Edmonds Masonic Center Sunday February 23, 2014, for the 7th annual "Remember to Dance" benefit for Alzheimer's research. Riel dances with the Freewheelers club, while Laurence dances with the Sky Valley Whirl Winds, the sponsors of the dance. Over the past 6 years, the Remember to Dance benefit has raised over 32,000 dollars for research of Alzheimer's disease, mainly at the University of Washington and RUSH University Medical Center in Illinois. Sunday's dance raised over $4,000 and counting. Joe Bahr of Bothell organizes the dance on the last Sunday of each February in memory of his brother Marty, who died of early onset Alzheimer's in 2008. To donate, visit remembertodance.org.
