Special Olympics Washington Polar Plunge

Well-suited to the event, Lee Kindell takes the plunge in support of Special Olympics in a thrift shop suit and tie he bought for the occasion. Five-hundred and five entered the 44-degree Puget Sound waters off Golden Gardens raising almost $150,000. Participants came from Bellingham to Centralia, including police and sheriff departments, corporate teams, university groups and individuals. Blue Thunder provided high-spirited sounds. Dan Wartelle of Special Olympics says 78-cents of every dollar goes back into sports and programming.
