Brandon Blake, lead teacher at the Denise Louie Education Center in the International District neighborhood of Seattle, gives a tour of the school to U.S. Senator Patty Murray, chair of the Senate Budget Committee, Monday March 25, 2013. Murray made an appearance at the school to learn about their programs and how budget cuts due to the sequester will affect them. Denise Louie has three locations in the Seattle area, including home visits for children younger than three, and serves mainly low-income children of diverse backgrounds. Current cuts that they were notified of on March 1st, eliminate the equivalent of four teachers' salaries from their budget, according to Executive Director Janice Deguchi. Murray, a former schoolteacher, maintains that education and social services programs should not be cut.
